Personal biography

Getting to know Dr. Alyssa Hamel

I’ve been in the field for more than a decade helping thousands of people over my career. My approach is all about teamwork – working together to create a clear, structured treatment plan that feels right for you. While there’s always a bit of trial and error with medications, I believe in minimizing guesswork by building a thoughtful, results-driven plan from the start. Having taught many nurse practitioners over my career, I’m very experienced in explaining the behind-the-scenes of how the medication works so that you can make an informed decision about which approach to try.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice isn’t just about writing prescriptions. I’m passionate about saying I’m here to partner with you and include myself on your team. We’ll stay in close communication, adjusting the plan as needed, so you feel supported and in control of your care before moving into more of a follow-up phase of treatment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I take the time to get to know you and your therapeutic goals, so that our decisions are therapeutically aligned with your bigger picture. I’ll explain how different medications work, how brain chemistry plays a role, and how we can optimize your treatment to get the best possible outcome.

How does it work?

01
Evaluation

We meet for an hour to discuss what’s bringing you in and how I can help. We’ll outline a plan of action and schedule around implementing it. There is a free consultation before this if you’re unsure if this is the right fit for you.

02
Therapy

After the evaluation, we’ll decide how frequently to meet and work through a treatment plan that we make together to address the goals you have for treatment.

03
Maintenance

After achieving your goals with therapy, sessions may end or they can enter a maintenance form for touching base and more subtle course corrections if desired (usually conducted much less frequently)

04
Location

Currently, all of our appointments are being offered remotely via video calls.

05
Out of Pocket Cost

The upfront cost of 60-minute sessions is $150 if not covered by insurance. Payment is due at the time of service and receipts are provided for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Reviews!

Alyssa's approach is like a perfect balance- she has helped me confront the things I need work on. And when I need help to see differently; a mental challenge, but I also feel supported and and never judged.
Dr. Alyssa has gone above and beyond the basics. I've had so many doctors who spent 10-15 minutes with me but I left feeling like I'm just a case number. I'm a social worker, so I know how these things go, but Alyssa remembers my concerns and things that are important to me from months ago.
I am more than a diagnosis, and Alyssa gets that. Alyssa sees me as a person who loves their children, wants to do a good job at work, and someone who wants to be present for her family. When I come to my appointments I immediately feel relieved, like I'm in a safe space and I'm better prepared to handle life’s obstacles better and better each time I walk out of our sessions.
