Personal biography

Getting to know Jillian Wagner

Hello, my name is Jill and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and trained psychotherapist in New York, with nearly a decade of experience. I enjoy working with individuals from all backgrounds, helping them explore and overcome the anxiety, fear, and challenges that disrupt their peace of mind and personal fulfillment. Grief and stress related to chronic illness are both topics I’m passionate about in addition to helping people with anxiety and depression.

I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice, which is rooted in an exploratory approach. I believe that each person’s journey is unique, and instead of following a rigid, predetermined path, our work together will involve asking questions, seeking answers, and uncovering the best route for your personal growth. We will delve into your strengths and examine your core beliefs as we navigate the complexities of your life.

With CBT as our foundation, we will explore the thoughts and behaviors that influence your experiences, working to challenge and reframe those that no longer serve you. Whether you are facing stress, major life changes, or health issues, I am here to support you as we investigate and discover the path to your fullest potential!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me means embarking on an exploratory journey where we will ask questions, seek answers, and find the unique path that works best for you. While CBT provides a structured framework, our sessions will remain flexible and responsive to your individual needs, allowing us to investigate and uncover the insights necessary for your personal growth.

My approach is strength-based, focusing on amplifying your inherent strengths as we work through challenges. Our sessions will provide a safe space for you to express your concerns, but the primary goal will be to achieve lasting, authentic change. Together, we will examine your core beliefs and personal philosophy, ensuring they empower you on your journey forward.

In our work together, you’ll find that therapy is not about following a predetermined path but about discovering your unique journey. By working together to explore your core beliefs, we will uncover the answers that lead to a more fulfilling, empowered life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial sessions may differ from the rest of our time together, as we’ll focus on getting to know each other, building trust, and setting clear goals. I encourage you to share your story at your own pace, understanding that some stories are more challenging to tell than others.

Together, we’ll craft a treatment plan that outlines the goals and actions we’ll explore together in our time together. We’ll identify specific homework activities or challenges that you can work on outside of our sessions, ensuring they are manageable yet impactful. These activities will be tailored to help reinforce the progress you make during therapy.

Typically, I meet with clients on a weekly basis, and we establish a regular time slot that works for both of us. The availability you see on my calendar reflects the times I can consistently meet with clients. Sessions are generally an hour long and exclusively through telehealth at the moment. If you schedule an appointment through Zocdoc, my team will contact you shortly afterward to coordinate the intake process and prepare for our session, which usually takes just a few minutes.

Thank you once again for considering working with me!

How does it work?

01
Evaluation

We meet for an hour to discuss what’s bringing you in and how I can help. We’ll outline a plan of action and schedule around implementing it. There is a free consultation before this if you’re unsure if this is the right fit for you.

02
Therapy

After the evaluation, we’ll decide how frequently to meet and work through a treatment plan that we make together to address the goals you have for treatment.

03
Maintenance

After achieving your goals with therapy, sessions may end or they can enter a maintenance form for touching base and more subtle course corrections if desired (usually conducted much less frequently)

04
Location

Currently, all of our appointments are being offered remotely via video calls.

05

Reviews!

I have had many therapists throughout the years and Jillian was the most professional, educated, compassionate, therapist I have had. I was able to open up with her more than I have with anyone else. Jillian provided excellent insight and is an exceptional therapist. I am very grateful she was referred to me as she has helped me so much during my time with her. I highly recommend!

I cannot speak highly enough about Ms. Jillian Wagner! Over the last few months I have been dealing with both personal and family difficulties that have caused me much anxiety and depression. I was trying to deal with it on my own by pushing through, doing what I could to be of help when I was needed and trying to brush my feelings of sadness aside. It was not working and I knew I had to seek counseling to work through this distressing time in my life. Ms. Wagner has been an amazing source of support and guidance since I began working with her! She has a knack for not only asking the right questions, but also offering the best feedback to what I am feeling and expressing. Her compassion and empathy are evident, but she also is able to get to the heart of what I am feeling. As she speaks to me, I often jot down a phrase she uses so I will not forget it. Suffice it to say, I highly recommend Ms. Wagner to anyone facing life events or other mental health challenges!
